Connie Wilson, a media consultant for Buckner, is a 20+-year public/media relations specialist and sports business veteran who has worked with some of the world’s top athletes, global business leaders and worldwide media. She has worked at the league level (LPGA), at one of the leading sports management companies (Octagon) and launched her own company (Connie Wilson Communications LLC) where clients range from entrepreneurs, business owners and executives in a wide range of industries. She is a seasoned executive who brings decades of relevant experience and knowledge to every project.

Wilson was a member of the LPGA staff for 15 years and has an impressive public relations and media relations background.  She first joined the LPGA in 1991 as a media relations coordinator and contributed to the LPGA’s media relations efforts through 1996.  She left the LPGA in 1996 to join Octagon in McLean, Va., where, as an account manager for event public relations, she established her media operations expertise while overseeing the year-round media and public relations efforts for numerous LPGA, Champions Tour, cycling, sailing and grassroots events.  In the spring of 1999, Wilson returned to the LPGA as public relations manager.  She was promoted to director of media relations in May 2002, senior director in January 2005 and vice president of communications in October 2006.

While at the LPGA, Wilson led the strategic communications planning for the organization and managed the overall direction and planning for the LPGA communications efforts, which included national/international public relations and media relations, key messaging, on-site tournament media services, LPGA awards celebrations and Hall of Fame induction events.  She cultivated and strengthened relationships with national and international news and sports media in order to maximize the media exposure of the LPGA’s members, programs and events.  She also oversaw media relations and operations for special projects, such as The Solheim Cup, LPGA Media Guide, 2000 LPGA 50th Anniversary Celebration, 2002 LPGA Player Summit, 2004 World Congress of Women’s Golf and 2009 LPGA Tour Summit.

There were several “firsts” for the LPGA under Wilson’s leadership.  She managed the creation and launch of the LPGA’s first-ever online media center and created and launched the Tour’s media credential/blog policy, the first such policy for any major golf organization.

Throughout Wilson’s career, she has coordinated on-site public relations and media operations at tournament sites throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, Japan and South Korea. She has worked with tournament staff, public/media relations directors, sponsors and international, national and local print and broadcast media to maximize public and corporate exposure of the tournaments, sponsors, programs and players.  She also was appointed by the LPGA commissioner to serve (1992-96) as the official liaison between the LPGA and the Commissioner’s Advisory Council, a select group of 37 senior corporate executives from a variety of disciplines.

Prior to initially joining the LPGA, Wilson worked for Advantage International, now called Octagon, as tournament coordinator for the 1991 LPGA Championship.

A native of Northampton, Mass., Wilson is a graduate of Wheaton College (Mass.), where she earned a B.A. in Economics.  She currently resides in central Florida.
